Stephan Riek is an experienced university Professor with skills in Research, Research Design, Life Sciences, Higher Education Administration and Leadership. He held the position of Deputy Dean of the UQ Graduate School which is responsible for the graduate research program of nearly 4500 candidates across all disciplines of the university, 90% of whom are at the PhD level, before commencing as the inaugural Dean, Graduate Research at USC in April 2020. He took up the role of Acting USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) in July 2021 where he provides strategic leadership across the university and operational oversight in research to align and support the university's broader strategic objectives in research, teaching, and engagement. Stephan is currently a member of the Australian Council of Graduate Research Executive. With a PhD focused on neural control of human movement, he has won more than $10 million in competitive research grants including a prestigious ARC QEII Fellowship and conducts collaborative research with industry partners including Boeing Research and Technology - Australia. He also worked previously as Co-Director of the UQ Centre for Exercise and Healthy Brain Ageing and founding Director of the Centre for Sensorimotor Performance.
