Helen Wallace is Professor of Agricultural Ecology and Deputy Director of the Centre for Planetary Health and Food Security within the Environmental Futures Research Institute at Griffith University. Her research areas cover agriculture, ecology and the interaction between these two fields. She has substantial research expertise in tree crops, especially fruits, nuts, agroforestry crops, as well as a strong track record in bees and pollination. She presently leads a large transdisciplinary research portfolio worth over $8.5 million to improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers, especially women, in the Pacific: (see https://vimeo.com/423068750/c6c4431839 and https://vimeo.com/389910080/eefd3ed6ac). During employment at her previous institution of USC, she held a range of senior research leadership positions including Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Dean Research and Co-Director Genecology Research Centre where she contributed significantly to shaping the research agenda of this young and emerging University. She has also assumed national leadership as Chair of a Ministerial Advisory Committee and member of the ARC ERA Research Evaluation Committee in the Biological Sciences on three separate occasions. She has supervised many tens of Honours, Masters, Doctoral and Post-doctoral scholars. Furthermore, Helen has procured over $15 million in research funding from competitive funding sources such as ACIAR, Hort Innovation Australian and Queensland Smart State.
