Krispin Hajkowicz is the Director of Infectious Diseases at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and founded the Queensland Statewide Antimicrobial Stewardship Program – a Queensland Government program to ensure the optimal use of antibiotics in rural hospitals. He was appointed Queensland’s Chief Health Officer in succession to Dr Jeanette Young, but did not take up this position. He is an Academic Title Holder at the UQ School of Medicine. He has published widely in the international infectious diseases literature and was the invited international speaker at the 2015 Indian Infectious Diseases Society conference where he saw the disastrous consequences of widespread emergence of the antimicrobial resistance in Asia. He is a Board Member and Chair of the Viral Hepatitis Group of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases. He has a large HIV clinical practice and has a special interest in the management of HIV/HCV and HIV/HBV co-infection.
