Dr Julia Playford


Dr Julia Playford is Director of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Sciences for the Queensland Government.

Her team of approximately seventy five staff include ecotoxicologists, chemists, biologists, and engineers working on water and air monitoring, providing science assessments for activities regulated under the Environmental Protection Act, and scientific studies related to water and air quality.

Julia studied botany at The University of Western Australia and completed a PhD in evolutionary genetics at the Australian National University. She has worked in the government and university sectors, formerly leading a research group at The University of Queensland.

Julia is current off-line working part-time as Director of Science Strategy re-evaluating the time spent with her family.
