Roslyn Atkinson was a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland from 1998 to 2018.
During this time she conducted many high profile civil and criminal trials and was lead author of the Supreme Court of Queensland's Equal Treatment Bench Book, the first in Australia. Her Honour served as Chair of the Queensland Indigenous Justice Committee with representatives from each of the State and Federal courts in Queensland and was a member of the national Indigenous Justice Committee of the National Judicial College of Australia.
Roslyn Atkinson has served as member (1992-94) and inaugural President of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Tribunal (1994-97). She decided many seminal cases as President of Tribunal including the first case on inclusive disability access to public buildings: Cocks v State of Queensland (the Brisbane Convention Centre case).
Ms Atkinson was Hearing Commissioner of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission (1994-97) and Chair of the Queensland Law Reform Commission (2002-2014).
In 2015, Ms Atkinson was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the judiciary and to law reform in Queensland, through contributions to the legal profession and to promoting awareness of issues of injustice and inequality in Australia and internationally.
Ms Atkinson is a graduate of the University of Queensland. She was the recipient of the Ruthning Memorial Scholarship (1984) and several prizes, including the Wilkinson Memorial Prize (1984) and the James Archibald Douglas Prize (1985).
